Choosing the right Partner
For your business
Is like choosing your Life Partner
This episode taught me that emotions and misplaced sympathies have no place in any partnership or commerce, and that as a businessman, I should think first from the head and then from the heart. I blame myself for this ordeal as my partner (I detest referring to him as such), had no âskin in the gameâ and no controls to adhere to.
I allowed him to work off a platform that was destined to succeed only on personal integrity and moral values, which I quickly learned, were two of the least sought after ingredients in my partnership, at least from his side that is.
Choosing a Partner
Human relationships are extremely complex and grossly misunderstood. A wrong business partner can not only ruin you financially but can also quickly convert you into a complete emotional wreck. Get the point!
Partnerships are not successful on a need based basis. They require acts of courage; courage to take tough decisions together, courage to face challenges together and the courage to stand up against any attack on the business, the partnership and the partners.
To be in partnership is to blend in and become one. Remember the motto of the Musketeers; One for all and all for one.
The situation gets even more complex if there are multiple partners in the business; two egos are somewhat tolerable and workableâmore than two are dangerous, can be very difficult to handle and may result in a âyouâ versus âthemâ syndrome.
If an Entrepreneur decides that forming a partnership is the best choice (I would urge you to think again, just one more time before you choose), then pay heed to some vital consideration before selecting a partner.
